Comporta, Portugal

Quinta da Comporta

Built out of a deep love and respect for the local heritage, Quinta da Comporta is an undeniable tribute to the Alentejo coast. Architect Miguel Câncio Martins has seamlessly integrated traditional architectural lines with a contemporary interior aesthetic. Built around an original terracotta courtyard where old grain stores once stood, the resort utilizes salvaged wood, wicker, and stone to mirror the natural palette of the surrounding landscape. It is a space designed for a genuine journey inwards—understated, highly sophisticated, and completely at peace with nature.

Hotel Guide

Facilities

  • The property offers 65 beautifully appointed options, ranging from intimate Deluxe Rooms to sweeping independent townhouses and pool villas.

    • The Style: Expect high wooden ceilings, polished concrete floors, structural lines reminiscent of traditional "bungalow" houses, and bespoke touches created by local artisans. Carafes of fresh water, Delta coffee machines, and premium organic linens come standard.

    • The Townhouses: Available in 1 or 2-bedroom layouts, these feature fully equipped kitchens, private patios, and first-floor master suites with private balconies overlooking the property's lush gardens.

    • The Pool Villas: For families or groups seeking complete privacy, the three-bedroom Pool Villas (300 $m^2$) offer a striking open-plan kitchen, an indoor fireplace, and an exclusive outdoor lounge with its own private pool.

Wellness & The Pools

  • Oryza Spa: Housed in a magnificent, 800 $m^2$ barn-like structure, the spa is a true sanctuary. It focuses on holistic therapies and signature rice-based rituals (utilizing the antioxidant properties of the local crop) alongside specialized longevity retreats.

  • Facilities: The spa features six private treatment rooms, a hammam, a sauna, an indoor heated pool, and a fully equipped fitness studio.

  • The Infinity Pool: The structural masterpiece of the resort—a 40-meter-long, solar-heated infinity pool that stretches out directly over the edge of the rice paddies.

Wine & Dine

  • Inari Comporta: Set in a stunning replicated rice-storage warehouse, the restaurant is a gastronomic tribute to the Alentejo coast. Under the guidance of Executive Chef Luís Espadana and gastronomic consultant Vítor Sobral, the kitchen serves "farm-to-table" comfort food infusing local seafood and organic produce from the hotel’s own vegetable garden.

  • The Vibe: The dining room features a monumental Valkyrie sculpture suspended from the rafters by Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos, honoring the Japanese deity of rice cultivation.

  • Eira Bar: The perfect, laid-back spot to move from a sun lounger to an evening sunset cocktail overlooking the "green sea" of the fields.

Local Guide

The Beach Restaurants

  • While the hotel offers exceptional dining, lunch on the sand is a local rite of passage. Head down to Carvalhal beach to experience Sublime Comporta Beach Club for grilled catch-of-the-day, or Jalatanga for a casual, feet-in-the-sand vibe.

Activities

  • Arrange a private excursion with Cavalos na Areia. Riding highly trained horses through the local rice fields, over the sand dunes, and right onto the breaking waves of the Atlantic coast at golden hour is the ultimate Comporta experience.

  • Spend an afternoon exploring the curated concept stores in the area. We highly recommend Stork Club (by interior designer Jacques Grange) and Lavanda in Comporta village for a masterclass in bohemian-chic homeware and clothing.

When to Go

  • The hotel is open all year round. Our favourite months are September and October.

How to Get There

  • By Car: Renting a vehicle at Lisbon Airport (LIS) is highly recommended. The 75-minute drive south takes you through scenic corridors of cork forests and straight down the Tróia Peninsula.

  • The 84 Rooms Tip: Comporta is a highly seasonal paradise. While July and August offer electric energy, our favorite months are September and October. The Atlantic breeze cools down, the rice fields turn a magnificent golden hue just before harvest, and you get the pristine beaches entirely to yourself.
