Lech am Arlberg, Austria
Almhof Schneider
To stay at the Almhof Schneider is to be a guest at the home of Mr. Gerold Schneider, whose family history is inextricably linked to that of the 15thcentury property in Lech, which was a mountain farm for 500 years. In 1929, part of the original farmhouse was converted into a modest inn with guest rooms, before evolving over the years into the superior five-star hotel we know and love today.
hotel Guide
Facilities
- Gerold and his wife, Katia, are architects and have curated beautiful interiors, which bring a no-fuss approach to luxury: All the materials used are second to none, the music is spot-on, and the lighting is flawless. We also love the hotel’s terrace, which is bathed in lunchtime sunshine from late January and, in spring, where they fire up the barbecue—as well as its spa stuffed with Aesop products.

What's the Story
- The family is also rooted in Lech’s history and is helping to shape its future: Lech’s first ski lift, which sits next to the hotel, was built by Gerold’s grandfather in 1940; they run the much-loved Restaurant Klösterle in the hamlet of Zug nearby; and they have plans to open a chalet/workspace in a 17th-century farmhouse.
