In the middle of the UNESCO World Heritage Site stands the ICARO, a retreat and energy oasis. Since 1936 ICARO has overlooked and lovingly guarded the Seiser Alm/Alpe di Siusi at 1,900m above sea level. From the Cir peaks over the Langkofel/Sasso Lungo to the Kesselkogel/Catinaccio d’Antermoia and on to the Schlern/Sciliar. The interior of the new ICARO convinces with contemporary, inspiring, and surprising elements. In the rooms and the suites, in the restaurant and at the bar, as well as in the pool and spa areas, unexpected new designs come as a surprise.

Facilities

  • New colors, new shapes, new stories. The 29 newly designed or renovated rooms and suites are very bright and inspire unique interiors, works of art, and unusual architectural design. All offer the most magnificent views over the largest high plateau in Europe.

Sustainability

  • In 2010, ICARO became the first climate-neutral hotel in the Dolomites. It obtains green electricity from hydropower, heats with gas, uses environmentally friendly cleaning products, and offsets its CO2 emissions through certified climate protection projects. The hotel was awarded the EU Ecolabel for its sustainable and environmentally conscious management.

What’s the Story?

  • Angelika Sattler and her family are the third generations to run the house. All family members live and love the mountain throughout the seasons. Angelika takes care of every little detail, but she never loses sight of the big picture either, for she desires that every guest finds a haven of peace and a source of strength at once. During the renovation works, it was important for the Sattler family to use sustainable materials, involve local craftsmen, and safeguard authenticity.

Wine & Dine

  • Kurt Rier, head chef at ICARO, combines traditional South Tyrolean dishes with modern elements. High-quality seasonal ingredients, as well as variety and quality, merge with regional recipes to create surprising and extraordinary dishes.
  • Restaurant with a view. Open to the public to are an open-air terrace and several panoramic indoor dining rooms with jaw-dropping views and unforgettable meals.

Local Guide

Worth Getting out of Bed for

  • Whether you ski, sled, or bike ride, the Alpe di Siusi is an alpine wonderland in every season. Guests who like to move around on foot, on e-bikes, or skis, will revel in the Alpe di Siusi in summer and winter. Head from the slopes to the overlooking pool during the cold season, then in the warm months, enjoy the spectacle of the setting sun and lush mountain views.

Winter Activities

  • Ski: 60 kilometers of slopes with guaranteed snow cover and access  to the world’s biggest interconnected ski area.
  • 80 kilometers of perfectly groomed Cross country skiing trails,  classic or skating.
  • Snow-shoe walking and other activities waiting for you up on the plateau Alpe di Siusi.

Mountain Huts

  • Gostner Schwaige: Get the Hay soup, it is served in a bread crock and prepared from 15 different herbs.

Summer Activities

  • Over 1000 kilometers and 35,000 vertical meters of cycle paths and routes

When to Go

  • South Tyrol is an all-year destination. You will find the  best snow conditions from January to March.  Summer lasts from June to the end of September. October is our favorite month for hiking.

How to Get There

  • Fly into Innsbruck (115 km) or Verona (185 km). The smaller airport of Bolzano is now connected to some European cities with SkyAlps.
  • Bolzano is 35 km from ICARO and 1-hour drive.
